Diamond BBQ in support of SMH SimBaby Charity Run

Diamond Delivery held a Fundraising Neighbourhood BBQ at 13350 Comber Way, Surrey on Friday April 15, 2011 to raise funds towards the $56,000 necessary to purchase a Simbaby – a tool for training doctors in specialized infant care.  To be held .

Diamond Delivery, supporter of Surrey Memorial Hospital committed to complete 56 km’s as a relay together on Saturday, April 16th, 2011 - 10am to Noon at Bear Creek Park.

Sponsors had the opportunity to "Buy a meter for $1" or "Buy a kilometer for $1000", where the targetted $56,000 will allow the hospital to purchase an important simulation teaching tool for doctors, nurses and ER staff that treat 17,000 children a year in the ER.

There are close to 4,000 births at Surrey Memorial Hospital each year, a number expected to increase. 500 infants a year require care in the hospital’s 18-bed neonatal intensive care unit. SMH desperately needs teaching tools to attract and retain medical staff. Surrey has the lowest number of doctors in urban Canada. SimBaby will help make Surrey a more attractive place to practice medicine and put down roots.

DOUBLE THE FUNDS…From February 21st till June 1st Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has been challenged to raise $5,000,000 and a private donor will match it. If they meet their goal our $56,000 raised will turn into $112,000.

By completing this relay, Diamond Delivery staff will highlight an important challenge facing all residents of Surrey – a shortage of doctors.

SimBaby was at the Relay Run on April 16th, 2011 for participants and spectators to check out
